projects worldwide. Since our registration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a private voluntary organization (PVO) in 1986, SMOIP has implemented 55 projects totaling over $35M in Salesian communities across all continents.
Through this page and the links to our various programs, we hope to give you an overview of the projects and services that this office executes. You will see how SMOIP supports the efforts of the SDB worldwide to educate poor and needy youth.
What started as a small outreach in 1859 to help the street children in Turin, Italy has developed into an international, humanitarian network. For the past 130 years, the SDB have been dedicated to the education and job training of poor, orphaned and abandoned communities, with a focus on the welfare of children and youth.
Today, there are over 34,000 Salesians and 250,000 lay volunteers and staff serving in 131 countries. Their objective is to help poor communities, especially youth, by following the simple maxim of “helping others to help themselves.” On any given day the Salesians work with over three million people around the world through their 3,000+ schools and youth centers.
As you learn more about us and our past and current projects, I’m sure you will see our commitment and dedication to the poor, especially the youth who hold the future of this wonderful planet in their hearts and minds. We look forward to partnering with you in future endeavors to educate and serve young people around the world while helping you meet your mission and objectives.
